Wynkoop Brewing's horse-drawn beer carriage rolls out tonight for frothy deliveries

A horse is a horse, of course, of course.

The Wynkoop Brewing Company is bringing back its horse-drawn beer wagon tonight, packing up kegs and cans around 6 p.m. and rolling them down the road to drop them off at the Wazee Supper Club, Mario's Double Daughters Salotto, the Lobby and the Marriott hotel at the Colorado Convention Center.

A new tradition that brings back an old one, the Wynkoop began delivering beer to some of its downtown accounts last year via horse and cart. The effort is "a cool, missing slice of the beer culture" in Denver, Wynkoop spokesman Marty Jones said then. "Part of our message to people is that they are getting beer that is is very locally made. So, we'll have a smaller carbon footprint, but a larger hoofprint."

Although the spectacle went on hiatus for the winter, the horse and carriage returned briefly in January to carry Wynkoop co-founder John Hickenlooper -- and a special beer called InaugurAle -- to his gubernatorial inauguration party.

This year, the horse and carriage will only be back on select days, however, says Jones, who points out that weather and other events can get in the way. The Wynkoop may also offer people the chance to charter the wagon (minus the beer) for downtown rides. For details, check the brewery's web site or Facebook page.)

"It holds up to ten people if we don't have beer on it," he says.
