The new Cebiche on West 38th Avenue
Next month, Cebiche will open at 7000 West 38th Avenue in Wheat Ridge, in the former home of Minilla's Restaurant. The massive, 5,000-plus square-foot space will have a main dining room, three bars and two patios where Peruvian food will be served, as well as a basement-level bar called The Underground where owner Sergio Iraola says Cebiche will feature local bands, Peruvian music, even salsa nights.

But wait -- isn't there also a Cebiche on West 32nd Avenue in Denver?

In fact, there is.

Iraola once managed the restaurant at 2257 West 32nd Avenue. But he did not own the building, and parted ways with the landlord on not-so-amiable terms in 2009. After a brief closure, the restaurant reopened under a new name, then closed again. On June 6, building owner Gabriella Watts once again opened the spot as Cebiche. During the six months it was closed, it didn't just acquire a new/old name; the bar was extended, a lounge area put in, floors replaced, and a new layer of paint thrown on the walls.

While two places named Cebiche might seem confusing, at this point neither restaurateur is showing signs of backing down -- and both are threatening lawsuits.
