Comfort Cafe open again after a three-week rest and restructuring

Comfort Cafe, the non-profit, pay-what-you-please restaurant in Berkeley Park, is back in business, after a three-week hiatus to "rest and restructure a bit."

"Construction on Tennyson Street was a big part of the break," explains business and building owner Jan Bezuidenhout, "There's no parking. We've seen almost a 50 percent loss in business because of it."

But at least the decline in business made it easier to handle customers, since Bezuidenhout says that her partners, Sandy Corlett and Barb McGhee, found they needed to take a step back from day-to-day service.

Although the first week back has been slow, Bezuidenhout sounds as cherry as ever, committed to the feel-good nature of her do-good business model, billed as "an ongoing feast for body and spirit." And that's a very comforting thing, indeed.

Comfort Cafe will be serving until 8 p.m. tonight, and will be open again at 8 a.m. tomorrow and Sunday.
