Hot-dog-eating contest, progressive dinner and more on this week's culinary calendar

Besides Elise Wiggins' new Summer Local week at Panzano, there is a plethora of beer-, wine- and meat-centric events taking place this week, plus an annual Hot-Dog Eating Contest on Sunday. Here's a taste of what's ahead:

Tuesday, July 26:

Park Hill Golf Club, 4141 East 35th Avenue, hosts the Highly Rated Wine Tasting in conjunction with Argonaut Liquors; wines with a rating of 90 or above will be served, and proceeds benefit Easter Seals of Colorado. It runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and costs $30 in advance, $35 at the door; call 303-831-7788.

Blue Star, 1645 South Tejon Street in Colorado Springs, presents the Vina Robles Winemaker Dinner, a five-course winemaker dinner. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs $60; call 719-632-1086 or visit www.thebluestar.net.

Tasty Colfax runs today from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.; sample food at fourteen restaurants in the Bluebird District (Colfax Avenue between Monroe and St. Paul Streets). There will be live music, a tap-dancing troupe and more. Admission is $20; visit www.mycolfax.org.

Wednesday, July 27:

Izakaya Den, 1518 South Pearl Street, presents Sliced!, a sushi-making class featuring chefs from Sushi Den, Izakaya Den and OTOTO; after class, sit for a meal that includes sushi, miso soup and green tea. Call 303-777-0691 or visit www.izakayaden.net.
