Racines serves award-winning nachos at 650 Sherman, not Bob's apartment
Bob doesn't want Diana DeGette showing up at his door anytime soon, expecting to get the Readers' Choice Best Nachos from the Best of Denver 2011. On Monday, he received a letter from the congresswoman, congratulating the recipient for winning the award. "I hope she's not referring people to come here for 'power lunches' -- they'll be very disappointed," he says. "My nachos suck!"
Award-winning nachos at Racines, not Bob's.
Turns out that whoever crafted the congratulations letter left a digit off the address, which is how the missive made its way to Bob rather than Racines, which is located at 650 Sherman Street, and not only won the readers' prize this year, but the overall Best Nachos award last year. (El Camino took the Best Nachos prize this year.)
But then, DeGette's office can be forgiven a few errors. It sends out hundreds and hundreds of congratulations letters each year, not just to the winners of Best of Denver awards (both editorial and readers' choice picks), but also valedictorians and salutatorians from all the high schools in the first congressional district, as well as other residents who've done something noteworthy.
DeGette's predecessor, Pat Schroeder, started this tradition, and you can see framed letters all over town, often right by the Best of Denver plaques. "We do them every year to Best of Denver winners," says DeGette spokeswoman Jen Clanahan. "But she does all kinds of congratulatory letters to all sorts of people that aren't necessarily part of a list."
And DeGette signs them all herself -- even if she doesn't fact-check the addresses.
Unique it is!
