The Hole will close on Tennyson Street

Just over a year ago, when I interviewed Mike Delmonico about his new beer and doughnut house on Tennyson Street, I asked him if he was concerned about what he'd named the joint: He was calling it The Hole, which, frankly, struck me as the worst name ever for a restaurant -- for anything, actually. Still, Delmonico looked me square in the eye, shrugged and put me in my place.

But now, The Hole, whose name never appeared to strike anyone else as a precarious double entendre, is closing on Sunday, according to a note on its Facebook page. But the doughnut den isn't shuttering without pomp and circumstance. On Monday, from noon to 11 p.m., it's hosting a blowout party in the back parking lot, complete with a pig roast, beer, vodka, live music and calendar girls.

To our friends, family, and doughnut lovers

It is with an extremely heavy heart that we have to inform you that this weekend will be our last weekend in business. Unfortunately what we are making is far less than what it costs to keep our doors open, and thus, we have to close them.

The past year has been full of awesome memories, laughs, triumphs, and achievements. We want to let you know that although we are closing, we will keep all of these things close to our hearts as we move through life. And none of these things would have been possible without you.

So thank you. We really appreciate everything that you all did to support us. We would love to have you come by this weekend, and say hello. We will also be having a huge party on Monday, from 12-11. It will be in the back parking lot, and we'll have a pig roast, Avery Beer, Svedka Vodka, live music, and 30 girls for a calendar shoot. Please consider this our going away blowout, and mark it on your calendar.
