The DU 'hood Spicy Pickle closes up shop

The DU Spicy Pickle is no more.
That signless, faceless University Boulevard restaurant space was, until recently, occupied by an outpost of the Spicy Pickle, a Denver-based chain of sandwich shops that first opened in 1999 and has since expanded across the state and the country.

But this University of Denver location has shuttered, and it's not the only one.

This is the second Spicy Pickle in the area to shut its doors this year; the location on 8th and Colorado closed, too, a few months back.

Despite what it looks like, though, the company isn't scaling back its expansion plans or attempting to shrink its presence in the market. An employee at the headquarters tells us the closures were franchisee decisions and that the Spicy Pickle is continuing to develop new restaurants in Colorado and beyond.

Proof: there's a Tech Center location on the horizon, going into a yet to be determined location.

What, are there not as many trust fund babies attending DU these days?  Seems like a lot of places around DU are closing.

When the first one on Lincoln opened in 99 or 2000 i ate there constantly and did for years. When they got so focused on expansion their quality suffered immensely. I gave up on them altogether years ago.

Bring back the Boards Head meats and maybe your shops will stop closing.  Back around 2004 or so, I'd eat at the Colorado Blvd. shop quite a bit.  First time I went after the meat change, the sandwich was bad and I never went back.  Sounds like I was on to something.

I remember when the Spicy Pickle made good sandwiches.

First time I went there was with you!  I agree though, quality has gone downhill drastically.

Really lame.  They all need to fold.

It never was as good as its Boulder competition, Presso. They made some BOMB grilled sandos.
