Bligh's Barleywine Ale from Dry Dock Brewing will be a bounty in a bottle
Dry Dock Brewing is getting ready to bottle its next seasonal beer, a whiskey-barrel-aged version of its HMS Bounty called Bligh's Barleywine Ale, and brewery founder Kevin DeLange says it's going to blow people out of the water.
"It's one of the best things we've ever made," says DeLange. "We just sampled some, and it's big, rich, chewy and caramel-y. We got the barrels super-fresh, and the distiller left a little whiskey in there for us."
To make Bligh's, Dry Dock ramped up the alcohol content from its HMS Bounty, an old-style ale, to around 10 percent ABV and then aged it for seven months in the barrels to give it hints of oak, vanilla and caramel. The brewery will only produce 120 cases; it will be released to liquor stores in the first week of October.
Bligh will be only the second seasonal beer that Dry Dock has bottled. Its first, Apricot Blonde, came out in June and will be off the shelves by the end of this month. A third seasonal, Wee Heavy Scotch Ale, is slated for release on November 14.
All are sold in 22-ounce bomber bottles.
