Guess where I'm eating?

For anyone who believes that Sushi Den and Sushi Sasa are the only two players when it comes to slicing and dicing the raw stuff, you're wrong: Here, at this unheralded shrine to the ocean, ambitions run as high as the waves in a wrathful sea, and the sushi and sashimi, plated, if you ask, with fresh Japanese wasabi -- so much better than the pasty stuff in the tube -- is exquisite. So, too, is the service, which is some of the most effervescent I've come across in a sushi bar -- or anywhere. And the thick menu, stamped with wonderments from the land and sea, also includes cold soba noodles, several variations of udon and bento boxes.

Can you guess where I'm eating?

Special bonus: Anyone who gives the first correct answer to the week's Where am I drinking/eating posts is entered into a pool -- and every Monday, we select one lucky winner who'll receive a 2011 EatDenver dining deck, worth up to $520 in discounts at independent restaurants. Wow! That's a lot of guesses, but the winner of this round has emerged with Woody, who was the first to correctly guess Land of Sushi, a Japanese restaurant in Centennial.

please, give it up already!  Where were you eating?

Wow! So many guesses. It took a while, but Woody emerged victorious, correctly guessing Land of Sushi, a restaurant in Centennial that's been serving Japanese cuisine (and stellar sushi) for eleven years.

I was thinking Wasabi Sushi in Belmar, but since someone guessed it, I'll go with Sushi Yoshi.

But, you have to ASK FOR fresh wasabi?  Ugh! If I ever saw a "tube" of wasabi behind the sushi counter, my order would be "Check please. If I want pre-processed crap, I'll eat at Taco Bell"

Offdisc: I've never been to a sushi restaurant in Denver -- Sushi Den, Izakaya Den and Sushi Sasa included -- that just gives you fresh Japanese wasabi. I've always had to ask for it, plus, there's always an additional charge for it, so it's highly unlikely that a restaurant that does offer fresh wasabi is just going to assume that you want it -- and are willing to pay for it. But if you know of a sushi restaurant where you don't have to ask for fresh wasabi -- where it automatically comes with your sushi -- by all means, do tell.

I will check next time I visit, but I believe Sushi Hai makes there own wasabi. Not saying they don't start with wasabi powder and make big 'vats' of it, but that's still fresher than buying it in the 'tube'.  I've tried the tubes in the asian markets, Ugh! I make my own wasabi at home from powder and the difference is extreme, as expected. The powder is so versatile. Then again, at Nobu in NYC, they shave their own wasabi root -- and yes, you pay for it!

When I said "fresh," that's exactly what I was talking about: shaved wasabi from the root. Very few Japanese restaurants in Denver offer that at all, much less for free. Land of Sushi has it for $5, and it's beautiful.

I'm thinking either Land of Sushi or Hana Matsuri, I know they have the same owners and always exceptional service and quality. This plate looks very familiar and I've seen this colorful plate in both of the restaurants before... hmmm....

My guess is Land of Sushi!  No doubt about it!  Best place ever!

I promise...someone in this city knows the origin of that photo. There's also a very subtle clue in the blurb.
