Think you have what it takes to win Denver's Avocado Takedown? Prove it.

Mr. Avocado Head!
Think you make a kick-ass guacamole? Save it for Monday Night Football. At the nationwide Avocado Takedown, which stops in Denver on Sunday, November 6, no one gives a fat seed if you can make a worthy guacamole. What the judges -- and that includes yours truly -- do care about is what else you can do with an avocado that doesn't have a damn thing to do with guacamole.

Think you're up for the challenge?

Matt Timms, one of Food & Wine magazine's "40 Under 40 Food People to Watch," spearheads the competitions, and he's searching for contestants to participate in the Denver challenge, which requires you to be creative with your avocado. If you win the smackdown, you could walk away with $1,000 in cash, bragging rights and loads of cool cookware. The takedown, which happens at Casselman's Bar & Venue, 2620 Walnut Street, will also include a People's Choice award.

If you're interested in competing -- and you're not a professional chef -- send your recipe, along with your name and contact info, to chilitakedown@gmail.com, and if you want to purchase tickets to the event, which cost $15, go to holdmyticket.com/checkout/event/30739.

May the best avocado recipe reign supreme.
