Little H Burger Co is open for business

A look inside Little H Burger Co.
Just as the H Burger brass had hoped, Little H Burger Co opened its doors today. After a soft opening on Tuesday, Little H will be serving up burgers, milkshakes and more for its first official day of business.

The location at 727 Colorado Boulevard is a fast-casual version of the original outpost at 1555 Blake Street. Little H offers a nearly identical menu to the downtown restaurant, but this one will feature counter service rather than tableside service and full service at the bar. Owner Geoff Smith says he's looking at three other locations as possible future spots for more Little Burgers.

Went here on Friday night and it has a LONG way to go to get my business back.  Keep in mind that Little H is billed as a "fast casual" restaurant.  When we walked in, the place was busy but not overwhelmingly so--there were a few empty tables and a few people waiting for takeout, but it wasn't a zoo by any means.  We ordered at around 7:15--two H burgers medium with fries.  After 25 minutes we noticed that people sitting around us who had gotten there well after us were starting to get their food, while we were still waiting.  So, I went up to the counter and asked the woman about the status.  She said there were 3 tickets in front of us.  20 minutes later--now 45 minutes after we ordered--we asked the same woman about our food and mentioned that we had been waiting for more than 40 minutes.  Rather than apologize or explain why our "fast casual" dinner was taking 45 minutes, she snapped back "some people are waiting more than 50 minutes!"  Not the answer we were looking for.  Finally, after another 8 minutes or so, our dinner came out (now almost an hour after we ordered) and, sure enough, my medium burger was well done (I've had the same issue of over cooking at the LoDo location.)

Worse yet, the family sitting next to us (who was there when we sat down) was still waiting for their food when we left, meaning they had been waiting for at least 75 minutes, and were just, at that time, being told that the order was lost and needed to be put in again.  It gets worse--the father at that table had gone up and checked on the status of their order twice and, on two different occasions, the servers incorrectly brought them the wrong food and then assured them that their food was coming right out.  So, on 4 different occasions, the restaurant was made aware that these people were waiting for their food and yet, somehow, failed to realize that the order had been lost for more than an hour.  Incredible.

Now, I get that new restaurants have kinks to work out.  But this wasn't a kink.  It was a failure of their system.  The "fast casual" concept simply isn't working the way the place is currently set up.  Adding insult to injury, the staff was rude.  This is in addition to my previous experience at the LoDo restaurant (last spring) where, on a Tuesday evening they were out of two varieties of their french fries and ice tea (what kind of place runs out of iced tea on a Tuesday at 5:30?), served me a bone-dry, well done bison burger instead of the medium I ordered, and overcharged us by $30 by adding 5 burgers onto a ticket for 2 people.  From what I gather, H Burger has problems that aren't unique to either location, but rather are at the heart of the operation.  I can't see myself going back to either when Park & Co. is just as close and serves a better burger, promptly, and without the baditude.
