Santiago's on 84th closes up shop

Santiago's is a Denver institution, selling one of this city's most iconic versions of green chile as well as rightly famous breakfast burritos. But one of the city's nearly two dozen locations has just been locked up for good.

The Santiago's on 84th Avenue near I-25 has shut its doors and disconnected its phone lines.

This doesn't mean the Santiago's organization is flailing, however. Each Santiago's is owned and operated by an individual proprietor, and this particular outpost of the burrito chain had long been separated from the rest of the company, thanks to a sticky customer-service incident in 2009.

As indicated by the recent deal with Good Times -- which allows the burger chain to feature Santiago's green chile on four of its menu items -- the rest of the company just keeps growing.
