Tree Haus Bistro takes root on 17th Avenue

Tree Haus Bistro opened today at the corner of Lafayette and East 17th Avenue, in the restored Victorian that previously held Grindhaus. For now, the place will be limited to lunch service six days a week, starting at 10 a.m. and running Monday through Saturday.

But Tree Haus could definitely grow.

"In early December, after we get a liquor license, we'll be open in the evening," explains Xavian Lahey, who's managing the place owned by his mother, Elizabeth Lahey. "We'll have beer, wine, tapas and dessert." While chef Kim Ellen is currently focusing on sandwiches, there are definitely more ambitious menus in the works.

There's also seating upstairs for private parties, and they also hope to install heat lamps in the lovely garden area in front, to extend the season there.

"We've been thinking about doing a restaurant for a while," Xavian adds. "We were looking at a place in Highland where we'd do a breakfast café, and were thinking of calling it Morning Glory." When they found this location, they still wanted to celebrate nature, but they also wanted to pay homage to Stephanie Shearer's adjacent EZE Mop retail development, which had included Grindhaus in the initial mix.

And so Tree Haus Bistro was born. You can reach it at 303-484-9728.
