A recent brewery expansion.
Breckenridge Brewing will break ground this week on a new annex to its facility at 471 Kalamath Street, where it will house six massive 300-barrel fermentation tanks. The first two tanks are scheduled to arrive on December 15; the other four should be here by February or March.

The expansion will allow the 21-year-old Breckenridge, which partnered with the Wynkoop Group last year, to increase its brewing capacity from 40,000 barrels of beer in 2011 to 60,000 in 2012, says brewery director and brewmaster Todd Usry. The extension will be built on the south side of the brewery.

In July, Breckenridge announced that production during the first six months of 2011 had increased 39 percent over the same period a year earlier. Some of the big-growth beers were SummerBright, up 118 percent; Agave Wheat, up 88 percent; Vanilla Porter, up 78 percent; and Lucky U, up 76 percent.

Sales of Lucky U are so strong, in fact, that Breckenridge has stopped canning that beer for the rest of 2011 so that it can keep up with the demand for bottles.
