Club 404 to roll out cleaned-up look as the Denver Wheel Club 404 on Saturday

clubagain.jpg
Get a first look at the renovated Club 404 Saturday night, when the Denver Cruisers hold their "I (Heart) Cruisers" event at the venerable watering hole at 404 Broadway -- which will now be known as the Denver Wheel Club 404.

Like the space, the name has a history. "The Denver Wheel Club harks back to the 1890s, when there were more velocipeds [bicycles] in Denver than people," explains Cruiser Brad Evans, who's been working on the club's resurrection under Craig and Andrew Caldwell. "We are bringing that history forward, and have named the bar after its ancestral brethren."

The Caldwells made a deal for Club 404 with longtime owner Jerry Feld in early December (see pictures of the Feld 404's last call here), and have spent the last two months renovating the place...but still keeping pieces of its past. "'We are celebrating the storied history here at 404 Broadway," Evans explains. "One of the first liquor licenses in Denver after Prohibition, it was known as the Red Lantern, until Jerry bought it in 1951. Now it's our turn to enliven a strip of Broadway with a place that's a little updated, and a lot like it used to be."

And that means the Caldwells plan to "keep it divey but fun," Evans says. "We feel super-lucky to be following in the footsteps of one of Denver's best-known addresses."

Make that tire tracks. The Denver Cruisers event on February 11 will be the official soft opening, and the Denver Wheel Club 404 will be rolled out to the community the week of February 18.

It has been brought to my attention by several friends that someone who needs to grow a pair has used a junk email log in name (a very little known one at that) to post on this site and a trickle affect happened.  (Not exactly an intelligent move considering IP addys are traceable). I hestitated to even respond but in light of the situation feel it's best not to ignore this one.I am Radtastic Elastic or Erin Siegel on online forums and social medias NOT Bebenannymama and I am also Brad Evans ex wife."Rodney Peters", I do not know you which means YOU DO NOT KNOW ME.   You're attempts to hurt my feelings are quite immature along with the majority of the cruisers which is why I CHOOSE TO NOT ASSOCIATE WITH THE GROUP.  Again, I CHOOSE... MY CHOICE.Word to the wise (there arent't many out there)... Just like the Denver Cruisers is trademarked and they ask you not to f#%& with it, I am asking the same of whoever attempted this little prank.  If you have something to say about the cruisers or Brad then please respect my request not to involve me.  And if I have something to say to Brad then I will tell him in person, via email, or phone as we have a beautful daughter and see each other a few times per weeks.

As an observer of this idiotic drama being perpetuated against a good man. Wwhat is ironic is that "bebenannymama" is Brad's ex-wife who has openly and publically, and without merit - made every attempt to discredit his good works. As for "former cruiser" sounds like sour grapes to me, and while you post idle threats and BS on open forums, its humorous that you don't even have the courage to post under your own identity.

What a joke. The owner Brad is a total scam artist. Ask anyone who has done business with the Denver Cruisers. Have fun dealing with IRS audits Brad!!!

if you took Cheers and made it into a T.G.I.Fridays, sure they might have great cheese sticks, but they wouldn't have Norm.

The new 404 Wheel club is awesome! Lots of nostalgia and some great times! Kinda has a dive bar feel, but the staff is cool.

LO-FI is the "non-profit"

LO-FI is the "non-profit" division/company of the owner of HPTA, Kickstand magazine, and the Denver Cruisers. The Denver Cruisers are sponsoring a non-profit party and asking you to support "a good cause". That "good cause" just provides a paycheck for Brad Evans.

Rodney, Is it safe to assume that you can prove your claims? You talk mad talk. Care to back it up?
