Sexy Pizza will open a second outpost on South Pearl Street

There's been a lot of restaurant action on South Pearl Street since the beginning of the year: the Pearl Street Grill, India's Pearl and Ototo moved out, Seven Cups dried up and Izakaya Den announced a move, making way for the Wynkoop/Breckenridge group to take over that space.

Now, there's more change in the works.

Kayvan Khalatbari, who opened Sexy Pizza in Capitol Hill four years ago, is opening a second outlet of his New York-style Pizzeria in less than a month. "We're planning for a March 7 opening," he says. "We signed everything yesterday, so we're a little busy at the moment."

The lease, he reveals, is for an existing restaurant space near Sushi Den, though he won't reveal exactly where just yet, since the current tenant hasn't announced its plans to close. But once he does take over the space, he'll make only minor cosmetic changes and upgrade the hood.

Better yet, "This location has a liquor license, which is new for us," he says, adding that he's also working on getting a beer and wine license at the original location. Khalatbari will expand his menu, too, adding a few new items. He's also working, he notes, on adding more charitable pies -- made for specific non-profits, which garner $1 from each sale of that pizza -- at both locations. "I would love to do a pie with the Denver Dumb Friends League," he says.

Sexy Pizza also plans to deliver to the DU and Wash Park 'hoods.

Retain it and open back up in a year or two -- wife that works out of town

If we could have two sushi places, Hanson's and PSG, Crushery and PBC we can certainly enjoy another pizza selection. Pizza would not be my choice-I would like to see Italian or Mexican, or just a new concept, but welcome to the hood.

So disappointing. I was excited for some new places to come into the area.. Crappy pizza with a stupid name and an even worse looking sign.. Kaos is good.. Pasquini's is good.. This is not needed.. This hood needs some good mexican.. oh well.. They will be out of business by the end of summer anyway..

Probably Budapest Bistro.

Yep, probably Budapest. We know Ototo's closed, so that's no longer hush hush, and India's Pearl is selling the building and their restaurant FFE, so they can't be leasing that place. I don't know why everybody thinks Crushery's closing though... or PBC for that matter. They are doing just fine.

Well considering that the Indias Pearl and Ototo spaces are available, and they specifically mention it is close to Sushi Den and has a liquor license, I am guessing it will be one of those spots.

I doubt they will be able to compete with Kaos however.

Their food sucks ass anyway and they treat people like shit.  I am sure any halfway decent restaurant will have no problem putting these idiots out of business.  Kayvan is a bitch.

If your or Sexy Pizza's attitude and goal is to put any restaurants, or as you so eloquently called them, 'idiots', out of business, beware that that doesn't happen to you as well. South Pearl/Platt Park neighborhood is a very tight-knittted community. We are by no-means nimby; in fact, we are very welcoming of new businesses. However, if you come stomping in disrespectfully and badmouthing other businessess, be certain that the word will spread throughout the neighborhood and the same will be done onto you.

Neighbor,

Sexy Pizza comes in as a friendly entity who hopes to get along with everyone, businesses and local residents.  We have never displayed disrespect for others and don't intend on starting.  We just want to help South Pearl be as vibrant and successful as possible for all on the strip.  We want to make pizza and be good neighbors and certainly can't help it if some people just don't like us for whatever reason.  See you all soon,

Kayvan

Kaos?

Probably not.

And I don't think they will be too thrilled to have another pizza place just a block down from where they are.
