Pho 4 U opening in the chain-ganged River Point at Sheridan

Yesterday, while driving down Hampden, I noticed a sign for a forthcoming Texas Roadhouse, just one of many chains that gang the River Point at Sheridan, a mega-mall sprawl at Hampden and Santa Fe that gives shoppers at Super Target and Costco the opportunity to chow at Chili's, Subway, Panera Bread Company, the millionth Chick-fil-A (you know...I've never been to a Chick-fil-A) and Carl's Jr.. Not a particularly alluring lineup, is it?

But then I spotted a banner with the words "Pho 4 U coming soon."

Pho 4 U, which is a hilarious name for a restaurant (pho joints sweep the floor when it comes to conversation-piece names), is not, from what I can gather, a chain, although there is a Pho 4 U in Cerritos, California. But that restaurant is not opening a second location in Denver, which means that the owners of the Denver Pho 4 U may want to make sure that they don't encounter naming issues. Then again, it's not Nobu.

In any case, the Vietnamese restaurant, grill and noodle house, located at 3610-C River Point parkway, has taken over a former chain -- Fatburger (that lineage of stores is now called Epic Grill) -- and while the interior currently remains the same, and the "Last Great Hamburger Stand" Fatburger slogan is still inked in neon red on the walls, there's a flood of paperwork taped to the inside of one of the windows indicating that a remodel is in the works.

Burgers, be gone!

pho 4 u(riverpoint) was pretty terrible!!!!!!  Cafeteria atmosphere (LOL well, really no atmosphere) pretty expensive for what is was-staff attentive till we ordered, then ignored us-we had to get up to ask for a box and pay...and the box of remaining food smells really bad when I open my fridge...I will not visit again...

While chain-store cuisine is not very appealing they serve a purpose. It is what you would expect at a strip mall where square footage is prime. If you are looking for something quaint and a mom and pop shop try Monaaghans Diner in Sheridan. Opened a couple of weeks ago. Young couple (30ish) opened a breakfast and lunch place. They took and old establishment and turned it into a very nice place. Located at 3889 S. King St. In Sheridan.

There's also a Steak n Shake going in on the north side of the River Point area, facing Hampden. Another chain, and not one I'm very fond of, but lots of people seemed to get excited about the other one that opened in Centennial.

Yep. Pho 4 U is in the strip mall right behind Steak n Shake. The construction crew was braving the gale yesterday when I stopped by.

Never been to Chick-Fil-A?!?!?  This is a crime, Lori.  I hate chains and fast food as much as anyone, but I make exceptions for Chick-Fil-A!

You're not the first person to chide my for snubbing Chick-Fil-A. But what's the great appeal?

what????

Seriously?  The greatest fast food, hands down. The nuggets are amazing, and the waffle french fries are like no other (but need to be eaten fresh).

Quit being a snob and go try it.  How can you be a food critic w/o being willing to try ALL food?

Oh, I'll try it. And I've eaten plenty of chicken nuggets and waffle fries, too. In fact, there are very few things I haven't eaten. The tarantula, though, was probably the best. You?

Unlike McNuggets and whatnot, the chicken is not chopped chicken scraps pressed into nugget or patty form.  It's all whole chicken breast which is cut to size in each restaurant and hand breaded in each restaurant.  No frozen stuff.  It's pressure-fried and well seasoned so it's tasty to boot.  In other words, it's real food from a fast food establishment.  That's not easy to find.

There's also a new pho spot coming soon on Belleview and Ulster (same strip mall with Pasquini's, Blue Ocean, and Which Wich) called Pho Saigon Le.  I think it'll be the first pho in the DTC!

It's open. Did you go yet? Any good?

Is Arapahoe Rd considered DTC? Pho Saigon is at Arapahoe & Clinton. There's also a pan-Asian fast casual place called Bambu that does pho on DTC Blvd - pretty basic broth but fresh basil, lime, etc. Not bad in a pinch. (Although, last time I went by they were closed because of a kitchen fire.)

The Pho Saigon at Arapahoe & Clinton is great.  Saigon Fusion (formerly Pho Fusion) at Hampden and Yosemite isn't far from the DTC turf either.
