Tresca's Trattoria now open on 38th Avenue

Tresca's Trattoria is now open.
In the last two years, two Argentine restaurants have tried to bring South American cuisine to the corner of 38th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard, but neither was able to get anything going. The most recent resident, Caminito Tango, shuttered quietly earlier this year after taking over the space from Viejo Domingo, which closed about a year back.

The address's new tenant is trying to breathe life back into the restaurant-swallowing hole: Tresca's Trattoria opened last week serving, according to its website, "creative and traditional Italian and American cuisine in a relaxed neighborhood restaurant and bar."

The spot is owned and operated by Jeff and Maudie Hutcheson, who also do the cooking, and their menu offers appetizers like caprese salad and gorgonzola bread plus several pastas, including fettuccine Alfredo, chicken piccata and gnocchi. They'll supplement that menu with daily specials, and the website also promises burgers and steaks, though those items aren't yet listed on the board. Soon, too, the website promises, the restaurant will roll out a Friday-night fish fry.

The Hutchesons are pairing that menu to a drinks list that spans cocktails, craft beer and wine. The place currently opens for happy hour at 3 p.m. and stays open through dinner.
