Pizza Public will open Wednesday in former Veronica's Bases Loaded

pizza public.jpg
Pizza Public took over the former Veronica's Bases space.
Pizza Public is set to open at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4.

It's taken over the space that was once home to Veronica's Bases Loaded, a definite dive bar. But according to Pizza Public's Facebook page, this new spot will be a "pizza-tapas-wine restaurant/bar with a nice highland upscale feel."

Wanted a dive bar that offered slices... instead found an attempt at "gourmet" housed in bad location near Federal and Speer. If I'm going to pay $16 for a pizza, it's not going to be here. Food was ok at best, decor was clean but I can already tell this place wont last. Better off selling slices and cheap beer.

better stick to dive bars and papa john's dude.  This place is way too upscale for you, it sounds.  I'm sure the owners are devastated to hear that they won't last.  So funny to see you have such high standards to criticize their "ok at best food" but you want cheap beer and slices of pizza.  Don't you think you should make up your mind about what kind of consumer/critic you want to be?

good thing there are both things offered at the public! lunch specials are awesome! two slices and a drink for FIVE BUCKS! plus best happy hour in denver! two for one everything from 4-7 and 10-close. sounds like chuck is pretty cheap! you're in the highlands buddy...

The place is actually quite amazingly beautiful inside. We were in on opening night and it was amazing. Great food, excellent wine selection. If I only read your article (more like unreasealrched blurb of a sentence) First, I may not have gone in. I am so glad I dropped by on Wednesday night. this will be my new hangout for sure.

I walked by on Sunday while they were hanging their new sign and they invited me in to try a slice.  HOLY COW!!  That was an incredible slice of pizza.  I can't wait to check this place out tonight.

there are DEFINITELY lots of sub par pizza places in denver. i've tried many of them since i've been here. however, i can PROMISE you pizza public is the bomb diggity. best pizza i've had in denver thus far. other pizza places need to follow suit.

Duhhh,  it's because EVERYONE loves pizza!  If it is made with good ingredients and a little pride then it can be the ultimate comfort food...What do you want from your 1%'r pizza steveville?

Lotza pizza on the west side lately: Ernie's, Denver Organic Pizza, Proto's, Angelo's, Carl's, Pizza Alley, Hops & Pie, Pasquini's, Parisi....and the soon to open NY Pizza Pub in the old Sabor Latino space. I'm sure I missed a few but I have to wonder how many of these places will still be here a year from now.

I agree with you, Becca.  There are far too many pizza joints in Denver and the surrounding area.  It's ridiculous especially because 99% of the pizza is lousy.
