Smashburger will roll out its SmashCart May 7 on the mall
Here's an idea that sounds like a definite smash: Smashburger, the homegrown chain, will introduce its first-ever SmashCart next Tuesday on the 16th Street Mall, one of the first physical signs of the extra effort that the Downtown Denver Partnership is putting into its mall vendor program.
Smashburger's store on the 16th Street Mall will be taking burgers to the street.
Smashburger already has a store on the mall -- one that features late hours and inventive cocktails -- but with this cart, it will be taking its burgers to the streets.
"Smashburger couldn't be more excited to be a part of the 16th Street Mall," says Doug Thielen, Smashburger's vice president for communications. "The mall serves as a hub for downtown Denver and provides Smashburger with a great location to serve our smashed fresh, served delicious burgers. In honor of summer, we are excited to bring even more Smashburger to our fellow Denverites! On May 7 we will be opening our SmashCart at the corner of 16th and Welton as a way to serve burger lovers at the other end of the mall!"
The cart will be serving burgers from 11a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
From its original store on South Colorado Boulevard, Smashburger has grown to 150 restaurants in 25 states nationwide, including one location in Kuwait; the company is on track to open sixty to eighty new stores this year, and is looking at Europe and Canada. And late last year, Forbes named Smashburger America's Most Promising Company."It's always a little scary to get an award like this," CEO Dave Prokupek told Laura Shunk after that win. "You don't want to screw it up."
