Sushi Bay will open where the Hole closed
If you've been following this blog, then you've no doubt read about the endless parade of pizza joints that are sweeping across the Denver landscape: Toppings started slinging pies in LoDo last Friday; Right Coast Pizza began tossing dough two weeks ago in Wheat Ridge; and Fired Up will open in the Golden Triangle at the end of May.

And now, it seems, we're sea-deep in sushi.
The wave started with news that Blue Sushi Sake Grill, an Omaha-based chain, would take over half of the Dixons space at 1616 16th Street (the other half, believe it or not, belongs to Lucky Pie, a pizza joint!). Aoba, a Japanese restaurant located in the former Organixx space at 1520 Blake Street, should open shortly -- provided the restaurant gets its zoning issues squared away; and Hapa Sushi, which already exists in Boulder, Cherry Creek and the Landmark at Greenwood Village, is adding a fifth notch to its belt when it opens in August in the old India House quarters at 1514 Blake Street.
And adding to that trio of raw fish emporiums is Sushi Bay, which is taking over the former Hole space at 3877 Tennyson Street. Construction has already begun on the purple building, whose interior is shrouded in secrecy, thanks to the concealing butcher paper. But at least the name conjures up images of sea creatures, whereas the Hole, a bakery and beer house, forced us to get our imaginations out of the gutter...hole.
