Level 3 pool bar at Four Seasons reopens tomorrow

Last summer, the Four Seasons unveiled Level 3, a poolside bar open to the public once a week on Thursday nights, luring patrons to the deck with the promise of waterside drinks and a swanky "Miami vibe," according to the hotel's general manager, Thierry Kennel.

And while the pool deck closed up for the winter, the hotel is now getting ready for season two: Level 3 will throw its kick-off bash tomorrow, May 17.

"It's the same as last year," says spokeswoman Dana Berry. "We'll still have the great signature cocktails." One thing has changed, though: "We're charging a $10 cover for men," she says, adding that women still get in without charge. (Good think Steve Horner, the anti-ladies' night man, has moved out of state.)

If you're having a hard time with the idea of parting with your Alexander Hamilton, though, know that on the first night, at least, the money is going to a good cause: "The American Cancer Society has a Relay for Life in July, and the Four Seasons is participating," explains Berry. "We're fundraising now through then, and on opening night, $5 from each $10 cover charge will be donated."

Meanwhile, downstairs at Edge Restaurant & Bar, the steakhouse on the ground floor of the hotel, there have been some changes to the menu. "Chef Simon [Purvis] always strives to use the freshest ingredients possible," says Berry. "He's looking forward to shopping in farmers' markets, and his menu is reflective of what's in season right now." She cites changes like a foie gras pb&j appetizer and pan-seared scallops served with mushrooms, sugar snap peas and sweet corn.

Those changes just went into effect, and if you're planning on hitting Level 3 for its opening day, you may want to remember them: The poolside bar has no food.

A cover charge for men only is about as sexist as one can get.  Double standard.
