Pasquini's will open a pizzeria and bar in the old J.R.'s space

Three months after the Uptown Pasquini's turned into a Serioz, the Denver Business Journal announced that Tony Pasquini had inked a deal on the old two-story Uptown building that most recently held J.R.'s Bar and Grill, making good on his plan to return to the neighborhood.

"It's a great location and a cool building, with old wood floors and old bricks. We're really excited to get it, and we're excited to be back in the neighborhood," says Pasquini.

And with so much space, the owner has plans to open more than just a pizzeria. "It'll be similar to the 32nd Avenue location," which is home to both a Pasquini's Pizzeria and, cordoned off from the restaurant, Zio Romolo's Alley Bar, he explains. "On the bottom floor, there will be a restaurant in the main section. In the corner on the Clarkson side, we'll have a bar," which he's tentatively naming Sergio's after an uncle (Zio Romolo's is also named for an uncle).

Plus, he'll build out the second floor. "We're working on little lounge areas," Pasquini reveals. "We'll have private dining and at night, it will have more of a lounge-y atmosphere, but done Pasquini's-style."

The owner says he's submitted the plans to the city, and hopes to open the doors in mid-August.

In the meantime, he's delaying the opening of the pizzeria slated to go in on East Colfax and Pontiac in order to work on this project. "We've signed the lease, but then the JR's thing came up," he explains. "It's on the back burner until we get this one open, but once we have time, we're still planning on doing it."

He's looking at an October or November opening for that location.
