Trader Joe's to open second Colorado store on Eighth Avenue

Trader Joe's has signed a deal for its first location in Denver, according to this story in the Denver Business Journal. The store will be on the southeast corner of Colorado Boulevard and Eighth Avenue, where Annie's Cafe was once located.

The spot was supposed to become a hotel, but like so many big plans for the old University of Colorado complex, that project never got off the ground.

The first Trader Joe's in Colorado will open next year at the Twenty Ninth Street development in Boulder; that store is slated to get the one liquor location that a chain is alloted under Colorado law.

According to the DBJ, Trader Joe's would not confirm that it had chosen the Colorado Boulevard site -- but it looks like a done deal.

Is that a good spot for Trader Joe's? Where would you like to see a store?

havana & colfax has a empty building where rancho librio was, that would put it in the idea spot for fitzsimmons, lowry, & stapleton

best place would be the Denver West or Southwest Plaza area, more open, lots of room, would attract the foothills/mountain communities as well!

I'd like to see them in Highlands Ranch next.

Some of you would likely enjoy researching the 8th Avenue historic project that is currently being negotiated in much of the the former UCHS campus.  The goal is to have significant parking added to the real-estate areas along COLO Blvd between 8th-9th and then expand some of the unused parking lots in the area as well.

For all of the naysayers - be glad that Trader Joe's will not only be up in Boulder....this is great news for the central Denver metroplex

Trader Joe's could open up a location inside my butthole (terrible parking and obviously too much traffic) and everyone in the metro area would still come on over.

Its an obvious choice because its Cherry Creek without being in Cherry Creek. That's why Snooze is there. Its major bang for the buck. Would they rather be the anchor of the center where Whole Foods is? Perhaps, but aren't congestion and parking issues there too? They are going where the crowds already are, a smart move.

Too bad TJ didn't beat Walmart to that space by Lakeside on 44th.  Would be a much better neighborhood for a TJ's.

I would really love for them to be the second anchor store in Stapleton's East Bridge neighborhood.  Lots of parking, and lots of customers.

Traffic at 8th and Colorado can't get any worse and maybe a big project like this will finally force a comprehensive examination of signal timing in this area. Living 5 blocks away, we will walk either way. Having whole foods, tj's and sprouts within walking distance will be incredible. Thrilled.

Nearly all the TJoes I've been to (and that's many) are characterized by too-small parking lots, too-narrow aisles, and tens of thousands of loyal customers.

A tough intersection but I'll be able to walk there.  That corner space has needed something for a while but this is quite ambitious.Hoping it works out.

What a disaster that's going to be.

Agreed - terrible location if this is true.  Traffic at that intersection already sucks and no where near adequate parking unless they build a parking garage.  Maybe they can build/lease something on the grounds of the old medical center.

That is not an ideal location for parking/access, but it is five blocks from my house so I heartily approve of this!  Note that this is also relatively close to the proposed Sunflower/Sprouts on E. Colfax.

Bad parking - the hallmark of any TJ location.

This is all kinds of wrong.

The location has NOWHERE near enough parking to support the kind of traffic TJ's will draw.As the first Denver store, it will generate lots of interest, even if only from the looky-loo" crowd.Eighth Ave is far too narrow a street to support this, and the 8th/CO Blvd intersection is already a badly congested one. The surrounding neighborhood will suffer.

Mark my words - I'm a TJ's veteran since childhood, have seen this countless times in other cities/states.

If there are to be more of them, they should occupy vacant shopping center spaces with PLENTY of parking - like the many abandoned Albertsons sites around town, for example.
