Beats on the Creek, outside Coohills tonight, isn't the only live music coming to LoDo this summer. The Market Street Summerfest, a free event, is coming to 20th and Market streets on Saturday, August 11.

That's a corner that's home to El Chapultepec, the city's oldest jazz club and one of downtown's oldest bars, but has become known more for sports than beats and eats.

"Market Street by 20th has needed a fun event to bring new people to the area," says Frank Schultz, owner of the Tavern Hospitality Group (its first space, the Soiled Dove, is now the Tavern Downtown) and organizer of the event. "We're really excited and think it will be a great opportunity to showcase the LoDo District. Larimer Square is host to numerous festivals and they're always big hits. We felt the Market Street area was missing out by not having a music festival like this. I think by showcasing some great bands combined with food, drink and sunshine, we'll draw a really big crowd. And, because of the sponsorships that we were able to get, we don't have to charge people to attend."

Market Street Summerfest is sponsored by Bud Light.

No word yet on the food lineup, but the music headliners -- which start at 3 p.m. on August 11 and continue until 11 p.m. -- include Tonic and Sister Hazel, with additional performances by Bop Skizzum, the Swayback, Take to the Oars and Strange Americans.

Market & 20th needs to bring new people to the area? The Rockies & LoDo crowd aren't enough? OK, I understand the desire, but then "sponsored by Bud Light"?  Oh, so they just want a different brand of d-bags and cheap-beer-swillers.  Way to support the locals!
