Green chile, meet cheeseburger. Downtown Denver, meet Bubba Chinos. The latest location in the chain started by Leonard Cordova, grandson of the late Stella Cordova of the original Chubby's, will open tomorrow at 1361 Court Place, just steps from City Hall.

And first-day customers will receive free chile cheese fries from 11 a.m. until noon.

This is a franchise location. "We're excited to cater to the downtown crowd. There aren't many lunch options over here," says franchise owner Kenneth Gomez. "We'll have TVs and free wi-fi, and we plan on hosting some cool events. We'll also serve beer and wine."

Bubba Chinos has seen numerous openings and closings over the past two years. Leonard opened the first Bubba Chinos at 160 Federal Boulevard; he still owns that, as well as one at 3900 South Wadsworth Boulevard. And in addition to the new downtown location, other Bubba Chinos franchises are open at 1600 East Colfax Avenue, 3000 South Federal Boulevard, 6400 West 20th Avenue, 201 South Main Street in Brighton, and 8807 1/2 West Colfax Avenue in Lakewood...with more to come.

The $2 advertised breakfast burritos are more like a two-bite snack. There is a lot of downtown business if the price and portions are right.

Why not just report next time a McD's opens?  Bubba Chino's: "exploiting the poor, one clogged artery at a time."
