Free Slurpees for 7-Eleven's birthday today!
Happy birthday to 7-Eleven, which turns 85 today. And everyone is invited to join in the festivities, which include miniature birthday accessories, chances to win some sweet prizes -- and free Slurpees for all.
America's largest convenience-store chain -- home of scary, all-day hot dogs and beef jerky bins -- is hooking up every customer who comes in between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. today with a free 7.11 ounce Slurpee. The company estimates it will give out seven million before July 11 is over, along with tiny bowties, tiny hair bows and tiny party hats.

In addition to all this free brain-freeze action and mini-swag, 7-Eleven is tagging certain in-store products with game pieces for its Big Summer Sweeps contest -- running through August -- so that customers can peel for chances to win a PepsiMax VIP trip package to the football championships or a BMW Motorbike F800 GS.
It's too bad 7-Eleven isn't giving away free gas, but there's always desperate hope for that on its 86th birthday.
