Bye, bye xiao long bao: Tao Tao Noodle Bar goes dark

I'm not happy, and if she were still here, outgoing Westword restaurant critic Laura Shunk wouldn't be happy either. And if you, like us, bowed in gratitude to the xiao long bao (named Best of Denver in 2012) at Tao Tao Noodle Bar, an excellent Chinese joint in Aurora that opened in March of last year, then we can all weep together, because those xiao long bao -- and Tao Tao Noodle Bar -- have seemingly gone by the wayside.

Owners David Lee and May Sung, who opened Chopsticks China Bistro, their first Chinese restaurant, on Federal Boulevard in 2008 and then resurrected it in swanky suburbia, where it was later seized for non-payment of taxes, took a hiatus before settling on Aurora for their third restaurant, which they named Tao Tao Noodle Bar.

So much for that whole "third time's a charm" malarkey. A "closed" sign that was visible on the door last week -- for several consecutive days -- has now dropped to the pavement, no one answers the phone, the space is dark and the parking lot is vacant, all signs that point to another (great) restaurant that's shuttered.

There's only one word for that: suckage.

Hi I'm commenting here in the hopes that someone knows what happened to David and May (proprietors of Chopsticks).  It's been more than a year since they shut down Tao Tao and I was sure that they would have popped up in another spot in that time.  Does anyone know where they are or know how I might get in touch with them?  I don't know where to get my fix of their xiao long bao and mapo tofu, and I might even have a business proposition for them.  If anyone knows, please have them email dough2000boy(at)yahoo.com

May told us that they were looking at the old International Buffet slot attached to Pacific Ocean Marketplace on 120th Ave in Broomstick. We meant to call before they left Aurora but didn't get to it, so let's hope that plan is still on.

Heartbroken, we loved Tao Tao and their wonderful staff. We thought they were on vacay but rushed over to get our noodle fix as soon as we thought they were back. Alas, they remain closed. I drive by TT everyday as it is one my way to work, hoping for a sign of life. :(

Tao Tao didnt hold a candle to Lao Wang Noodle house when it comes to Xio Long Bao or Potstickers.

The owners are notorious for not paying taxes, suppliers, accountants and anyone else they owe money to. Not surprised.

Wow that sucks! Tao Tao was on my list of go-to spots... never would I have expected for it to close. Maybe they're just taking an unannounced break (optimistic speaking).

My sentiments exactly! We'll keep checking to see if it reopens, and if so, I'll meet you threre.

I'm afraid that sign was nowhere to be seen over the weekend -- or today.  Like I said, suckage!!!!!

Called, no answer, maybe their flight back from wherever they were got cancelled. Maybe they'll be back tomorrow, or the next day... Maybe someone had a cold/flu and needed just another day or two off. Three cup chicken, I can't live without you. Sesame pocket, I love you. I never told you in person, but I do. I LOVE YOU! Don't leave me. Please. You made Lowry bearable. Oh god... oh god.
