Upslope Brewing announced today that it will build a second brewery and tap room in Boulder to handle the ever-increasing demand for its beer.

The new location will be in Flatiron Park, at 1898 South Flatiron Court, near 55th Street, and include a 2,300-square-foot tap room. It will allow Upslope, which was founded in 2008, to expand its brewing capacity by 70 percent -- with room for more. Upslope is on pace to brew more than 6,000 barrels of beer in 2012.

"We are just out of room here," says Upslope spokesman Henry Wood. "We love north Boulder and have a great tap-room presence here. But when we are in full-tilt production, it is difficult to squeeze new beers into the brewing schedule."

Brewery founder Matt Cutter told Westword last April that he was looking for a new space, but that he was committed to staying in Boulder. In a statement today, he said, "Demand for our beer continues to grow exponentially and ongoing expansion at the current location doesn't meet our future goals. Flatiron Park has the infrastructure that our production brewery needs to take it to the next level."

The new location will have room for a much larger canning line, which Upslope recently purchased from Oskar Blues. The brewery will continue to can its four primary beers on it, as well as its series of limited-release brews.

There will also be a workspace where people can have a beer or enjoy a cup of coffee from Ozo Coffee Roasters, which will be located next door.

The old brewery and tap room at 1501 Lee Hill Road will stay open; Wood says it will be used for small-batch and experimental beers.

Upslope hopes to have the new facility open in the first three months of 2013.
