That was fast: #GABF tickets sell out in record 45 minutes

Update: Tickets for the Great American Beer Festival sold out in a jaw-dropping 45 minutes today, smashing last year's record of seven days, which, in turn, crushed the previous year's rate of several weeks. Craft beer, it appears, is now as popular as a Justin Beiber concert. But the Boulder-based Brewers Association, which hosts the annual festival -- the largest one in the world -- is going to face questions from angry beer fans who were shut out, couldn't get into the Ticketmaster system or who believe that scalpers bought most of them. In fact, some tickets are already on sale on eBay and StubHub for quadruple the price.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tickets for the Great American Beer Festival, which takes place October 11-13 at the Colorado Convention Center, go on sale today at 10 a.m. -- and you'll want to scoop them up quickly before they sell out.

There are three public sessions on Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night; a Saturday afternoon session -- available only to members of the Brewers Association and the American Homebrewers Association -- has already sold out.

Last year, all four sessions -- which together account for about 55,00 tickets -- sold out in seven days, a record pace for the festival. They are expected to go even quicker this year, despite the higher ticket price.

Hours of drinking beer from hundreds of breweries across the country with thousands of your closest buddies will cost $65 per session, a $5 increase over last year and a $10 increase over the 2010 GABF entry price.

They didn't sell out in "45 minutes." Tickets were locked up in less than five. News agencies reporting on this shouldn't be overlooking the fact that 49,000 tickets were sold out in LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES. This is the work of scalpers and other resellers, plain and simple, and is a snapshot of what happens when you have companies like TicketMaster running (ruining?) the show.

Seems super fishy. Oh well, I'll start my own beer festival! With blackjack! And hookers! In fact - forget the festival!!!

Just a few years ago, you could wander into any number of bars or liquor stores and pick up tickets even a couple of weeks before the festival. I've stopped trying to get them since sales went 100% online because it's just too frustrating. One part of life that the internet has not improved.

I was reloading TM up until it let me buy them at 10am sharp.  It immediately said no tickets were available, and I re-tried repeatedly until I read this.  I am very annoyed.  And somehow one person is selling 60 tickets on Stub Hub for $160 each.

Yep, clearly scalpers got a bunch of them.   Even though there was a 4 ticket limit, there were sellers on Stub Hub selling 49, 42, 24 and 20 tickets within minutes of the on sale.  It's frusturating that a lot of folks who go every year and are true beer fans won't be able to go (at least not without shelling out more $$)

@Mantonat Alex'sFakeBeerFestival.com - all proceeds go to my beer fund. Hope everyone likes 30 racks of PBR, cause that's all I'm buying.
