Hoot and Howl, Sal's Street Food move into the Twisted Olive space

Two new restaurants hope to soar to new heights in the former home of Twisted Olive. And while Hoot and Howl and Sal's Street Food and Sushi will be sharing the space at 8270 East Northfield Boulevard in the Shops at Northfield Stapleton, each will offer a different dining experience.

Hoot and Howl is designed as a family-friendly hotspot that gets edgier as the day gets older and the beer taps open up. Think Old Chicago minus the sports memorabilia, and add some some rock and roll. The interior, while still under construction, already includes detailed cityscapes and an assortment of owls (sporting derby hats and facial hair) perched about the walls and surveying the tables.

The in-the-works menu includes glazed pork belly, mahi mahi fish tacos and lobster ravioli. The entertainment lineup is also firming up: Mondays and Tuesdays will feature local bands, Wednesdays are reserved for karaoke, Thursday is open mic night, Friday and Saturday feature more live music, and Sunday is "Service Industry Night."

From Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Hoot and Howl will serve up $1 pints, $2 domestic bottles, $3 wells and half-priced appetizers. Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to midnight, the same deals will apply for the establishment's "Moonlight Hour." And the place will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

While Hoot and Howl will focus on burgers, Sal's Street Food is all about "street food."

The menu is fairly basic -- mac and cheese, buffalo wings, etc -- and the sushi section is limited, with only five rolls. But there's also a "Stuff It!" section, where you can take classic childhood favorites like sloppy Joes or peanut butter and jelly, and stuff them inside what the website refers to as a "flaky, buttery crust."

Watch for both to open next month.
