World Cafe comes to an end in Boulder

The space at 946 Pearl Street in Boulder has gone through many incarnations over the past few years: It was a wine-making operation, then a wine bar called The Blending Cellar, which was bought and reopened as Cuvee -- another wine bar that shuttered soon after. This June, the owner repurposed the spot as World Cafe, a gathering place that also focused on wine.

But the bottle there is now empty.

The eatery closed yesterday, and the staff was having a good time during a farewell party when we called -- with the person answering the phone saying simply that it was time to move on.

It's hardly surprising.  When you change your name and renovate, but can't last 2 months under the new identity, you're doing something wrong.  Heck, I mentioned that they had closed to someone who works a block away from them and definitely eats out frequently, and his response was "Where was World Cafe? I've never heard of it".

 

Their concept was doomed from the start.  A place that advertised itself as being a community gathering point, serving breakfasts and coffee, yet would not allow people to work on laptops?

 

DonkeyHotay may be right, maybe every restaurant that has occupied that space has died, but this death was more akin to a suicide than a murder.

That space has killed every restaurant that attempted to occupy it ...

 

... just like Afghanistan.
