Reader: Moe's barbecue is better than anything from Texas

Categories: Cafe Society

Barbecue at Moe's, a Colorado creation.
One reader who moved to Denver just two months ago can't wait to leave town -- and the dozens of commenters who've responded to his post can't wait for him to get lost, either.

Among greylopht's complaints?

There is zero culture here, and folks want to be outdoors folks. Their version of outdoors is visiting a strip mall, but they dress all REI for it. There has been some good food, but over priced.

See his complete rant on why Denver sucks here -- along with more than 160 comments in response, most of them heated defenses of Denver.

Among the comments is a defense of Denver barbecue. Says kwame:

Moe's BBQ is better than any of that Texas shit.

Good news, kwame: Moe's Original Bar B Que, which got its start in Vail in 2001, will add a ninth Colorado location this month -- in a historic cabin in Breckenridge. Moe's has two very popular outlets in metro Denver, including one at 530 Broadway and one complete with a bowling alley a few miles further down Broadway.

What's your favorite barbecue in Denver? And what do you think of greylopht's rant?

I love Moe's Original BBQ! Those boys know how to cook and have fun!

The original subjects inane whining about Denver was bad enough...but let's not go crazy and start saying and actually believing that Moes BBQ is better than anything in Texas.

I like Moe's well enough.  It's significantly better than the school lunch BBQ you get at Brothers or Bennet's BBQ.   But there are 0% of people in this world that really know BBQ that would agree that Moe's can hold a candle to the best of real Texas BBQ.

Brothers BBQ is ok around here, and I really do like Moe's.  But what really gets my pie hole moving is Serious Texas BBQ in Loveland.  I'll drive an hour out of my way for one of their Texas Taco's, it's that good.Cheesy potatoes topped with smoky pulled pork, onions, jalapenos and cherry chipotle sauce.  YUM.

Not to slight Moe's or this great state of ours, but if you think that Moe's is better than BBQ in Texas it only proves that you've never been to Texas.

Greylopht, I would gladly be your tour guide for a day to show you some great Denver culture, some outdoor life that doesn't involve fighting mountain traffic or fleece overkill, and some great hangouts where people are neither pretentious nor stoned. If you still don't like Denver after that, I'm afraid it's you.

Speaking of Moes, why did the one in Glenwood close?

Different strokes I guess.  That's the beauty of properly done BBQ--it evokes passion.  I like Memphis style, KC Style and even some Carolina style (although I think they over chop the hell out of the pork--I can chew my own food thank you).  I love all forms of food that is done right.

But bad BBQ?  Bad BBQ should evoke passionate hate.  It's disrespectful.  And unfortunately Denver has plenty of bad BBQ.
