Two new Denver breweries will open this weekend, just in time for the Great American Beer Festival frenzy in town -- and you won't have to go far to visit both, since they're just ten blocks apart. Black Shirt Brewing in RiNo and Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew in Five Points are the seventh and eighth breweries to open in town since the 2011 festival, and a testament to how quickly the craft beer scene is growing here.

Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew, at 2810 Larimer Street, is a one-barrel nanobrewery operated by four friends, three of whom are still working their full-time jobs.

One of them, Brandon Proff, says that while they hope OMF can stay open with regular hours after GABF, it's possible that they'll need a few more days or even weeks before that happens. "There is a high probability of blowing through everything we have very quickly, in which case we will need to time to brew more," he says.

But getting open, even temporarily, in time for GABF was "the absolute goal," he adds. "I have a lot of brewer friends in town from all the country. Some people say It's suicide, but it's fun. The experience overall this weekend should be punching you in the face constantly."

Our Mutual Friend will hold a soft opening on Friday, October 12, and Saturday, October 13, from 1 to 10 p.m. both days. Pints are $5, tasters are $1, and the DipStik and Wafflegänger food trucks will be on hand.

Black Shirt Brewing will hold its grand opening on Saturday, October 13, from 3 to 10 p.m.; the brewery has already held two soft openings over the past few weeks.

"It should be a great party and a nice break from the madness that is GABF," says co-owner Branden Miller. "Permanent hours are still not nailed down for us, as everything is being determined by when our beer is ready. We brew as much as we can, as often as we can, and when the beer is ready we share it with the community. We refuse to push beer out that isn't what we determine to be perfect. So regular hours probably won't be for a while, but we'll share our beer with the community as often as we can! Cheers, and to the beer lovers who traveled from around the country to experience the best beer festival on earth, we say -- welcome to Denver."
