Freshcraft, Right Coast Pizza offer end-of-world fun in our beer calendar

It was a big week for beery expansion announcements: Oskar Blues brewed its first batch of Dale's Pale Ale at its new brewery in Brevard, North Carolina, while New Belgium spent $10 million to add twelve massive new fermentation tanks and and four brite tanks so that in can increase capacity to 840,000 barrels per year as it awaits the construction of its second brewery in Asheville, North Carolina. In the meantime, Odell broke ground on a $7 million expansion, while Avery finally closed on the purchase of 5.6 acres, where it will build a new brewery and restaurant in Boulder next year.

And although the scale is smaller, Denver Beer Co took possession of six new fifteen-barrel tanks, all part of an expansion that will also include taking over the building next door, which will be used for a variety of beer-centic events next year.

For all this week's craft beer events, turn the page.

The Broadway building housing El Diablo and Sketch restaurants is in foreclosure and scheduled for auction Jan. 3.

Owned by Jesse Morreale, the building and restaurants at 21 W. First Ave. have been the subject of a dispute between city officials and Morreale over building safety issues.

Foreclosure documents filed on the Broadway building show that Morreale Hotels LLC owes $2.02 million from an original loan of $3.78 million issued in 2008.

The East Colfax building, site of a motel in addition to the defunct Rockbar, has a loan with a balance of $1.15 million.

In the often ignored beer island of Colorado Springs, Phantom Canyon just started on an expansion of their brewery that will include a rooftop patio above the added brewery space. If you haven't tried their annually bottled Winston Smith barrel-aged barley wine, take a drive down and pick up a couple of bottles before they run out.
