Reader: Even hipsters liked the sausage at Carbone's

When Carbone's Italian Sausage Deli shut its doors last month, word was that the closure was temporary. But today there are no signs of it reopening, and the voicemail message remains unchanged: "We will be temporarily closed due to a sickness in the family. Hopefully we'll be back."

Carbone's was the third old-school Italian spot to close in northwest Denver in the past few months; Pagliacci's called it quits in August, and Longo's Subway Tavern sold soon after.

Says maxplanck0:

Businesses like Carbone's have a life cycle of their own and will rise and fall subject to a wide range of circumstances, not solely the demographic make-up of the immediate neighborhood. When the Italian families who occupied that part of town for such a long tenure some 30 years ago pulled up stakes and headed to Wheat Ridge, Westminster and Arvada, Carbone's chose to stick it out and sell their excellent wares to a new clientele. Even hipsters like sausage and pasta e fagoli..

And those hipsters would like to see Carbone's come back. In the meantime, where are you getting your sausage fix?

Please remember that Carmine Lonardo's shop on Wadsworth Blvd and Florida Ave in Lakewood still exists. It's great.  Give the place a try.
