Chili Verde closes, looking for a new location

It's lights out for Chili Verde.
Brothers Hanzel and Eder Yáñez won fans quickly with the authentic Pueblan fare they served at Chili Verde, the restaurant they opened in LoHi in the summer of 2009. But running the place turned out to be bumpier than importing their mother's recipes to Denver. In December 2011, a kitchen fire closed the restaurant for weeks. And this past December, they decided to close up altogether...at least in this location.

Here's the word from the Chili Verde website:

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! As we bring in the new year, we have decided not to renew our lease AT THIS LOCATION. We are currently closed while looking for a new location to better serve you. As of yet have not found our new home. It was a hard decision to close without a new home but we needed to take the opportunity as it presented itself. We will be posting updates on Facebook and our website as soon as soon as we find our new home. If you have any suggestions on available restaurant sites please email us at manager@chiliverde.net. Please stay tuned.... We miss you already!

Thank you SO SO much for your patronage. We are sorry for the inconvenience of being closed during this time but we are very much looking forward to serving you the same GREAT Southern Mexican Cuisine at our new location! Until then stay in touch - we'll miss you!

With Love,
Eder, Hanzel & the Chili Verde Staff

Did you eat at Chili Verde? Where do you think it should relocate? And what should go in its place in hot-hot LoHi?

They should have no problem finding a new space on the Northside (as Dave suggests).  Personally, I think they should make Julia Blackbird an offer - what an improvement that would be.  As for the building they had been occupying - it should come down.  What a dump.

I love Chili Verde.

Anywhere in "the Northside" would be OK
