Odell Brewing has been shaking peaches from trees for a while now, having made a couple of beers from the Western Slope's signature pit fruit. But the Fort Collins brewery will turn out its latest peach beer in March when it bottles its latest Cellar Reserve series beer, Tree Shaker.

"Colorado, we really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree," the label says, borrowing a line from the classic Steve Miller Band song.

Odell used 3,000 pounds of peaches from Big B's/Delicious Orchards in the North Fork Valley that it pureed and then froze last fall, before thawing them out on brew day, says brewery spokeswoman Amanda Johnson. "It was a messy process."

Two of Odell's most recent peach beers were Haven and Hale, a taproom specialty that made its way to Denver during the Great American Beer Festival, and Avant Peche, a brilliant imperial porter made with peaches and fermented with wild yeast.

Tree Shaker, at 9.7 percent ABV, will be a hoppy imperial IPA, however, and the peaches will complement several varieties of hops that already have a peachy, citrusy flavor, Johnson says. The beer will be sold in 750 ml bottles.
