Seoul BBQ earned a Readers' Poll award for Best Korean Restaurant.
The 2013 Best of Denver is now on stands (and online), and in its 196 pages you'll find Westword's picks for the best restaurants, bars and chefs around town. Along the way, we asked you to nominate and then vote for your favorites in dozens of categories; halfway through the voting process, we announced our top vote-getters, and had another round of voting. Hahahaha, it's good that you saved the punchline for the end; Ace as best new restaurant.  But you didn't give us the whole description:  Best new restaurant for contracting a gastrointestinal disorder.

Please tell me that White Fence Farm for Best Fried Chicken is an April Fool's joke!  Please!  I'm begging here!

How can I find the specific dish for Readers' Choice: Best Vegetarian Dish in a Non-Vegetarian Restaurant (Euclid Hall)? They have pretty much nothing vegetarian on their menu, so if I'm missing something I'd like to know.

Thanks!

this list is horrendous.  Buffalo Wild Wings best wings in Denver?  A best of Denver list with establishments that are in Boulder?  Smash Burger best fries?  This list is asinine and ridiculous

So who -- exactly -- decided the "Best Of" given the conflict between your elected winner and the READER's Choices ??

... your marketing / advertising department?

Objective? ... NOT!

DonkeyHotay

@LeahA ... it does make a FARCE of the "Best Of" list when the READERS' choice -- 1000s of voters -- are hidden from publication in favor of WW's surreptitious Editor's choice -- a handful of WW employees.

The words Deceptive, Dishonest and Pathetic come to mind.

@ck1842 Hey, at least there is some progress. The readers picked McDonald's as best fries almost every year before this, so the Smashburger win is actually a slight step up in taste.

@ck1842 Also, if you disagree, share your favorites with us! Where do you go for great wings and fries?

@ck1842 This is the readers' choice list - the things the readers voted on. So if you if you disagree, next time fill out a ballot. And Westword has been covering the Denver/Boulder area as one demographic area for a long time, like it or not. It also includes all the other suburbs like Littleton, Aurora, Centennial, and Lakewood. Most of us have gotten used to the the whole area simply being called "Denver"."

@ck1842 ... looks like the "awards" were for sale to the highest bidder, or those businesses that agreed to spend the most advertising $$ with Weakword over the next year.

Again I'll ask -- if the "reader's choice" winners are separate and subordinate to the "best of" listed by WW, then who the fuck actually made the choices for the winners?

Lori "I run crooked contests and divert prizes to my wrong-answering friends" Midson ??

LOL!

Westword owes the readers and public full disclosure on this SCAM.

@DonkeyHotay

we answer this question every year: The editorial department at Westword is responsible for the editorial choices in the Best of Denver (Cafe Society writers do the Food & Drink section), and that work is done completely separate from marketing/advertising departments -- they don't know the winners until we go to press.

And yes, Mantonat: If DonkeyHotay wants to count readers' ballots next year, he's more than welcome!

@DonkeyHotay @ck1842 You should volunteer to preside over the balloting. You could be the UN of Denver food award voting. I'll even chip in for a blue beret for you.

@patricia.calhoun

"Cafe Society writers" -- 3 or 4 people?

Your print Edition used to feature the READERS' choices -- including description and writeups -- with a subordinate Editor's choice mention at the end.

You've now inverted that, ignoring the will and effort of the Readers' votes, listing the unpopular Editor's choices with publicity descriptions and info, and relegated the winners of the READERS' choices to a singular line mention at the bottom.

It's also not clear whether your new Best Of smartphone App is delivering READERS' choices or merely the favorites of paid WW employees.

@Mantonat @DonkeyHotay @ck1842

What balloting?

Weakword has apparently ignored the READERS' choices and covertly inserted their own Editor's choice without FULL DISCLOSURE as to how they made the choices and why they rejected or subordinated the READERS' votes.

@patricia.calhoun ... I must be suffering a delusional contact high from reading all WW's marijuana propaganda stories.

Too many windmills, too little time.

@DonkeyHotay @patricia.calhoun

sorry, donkey, but you're wrong. Feel free to stop by our office and we can show you the print editions of the past thirty issues. The format is identical in all thirty: Editorial choice first, with a capsule description, followed by one line listing the readers' choice.
