Blue Moon brews a special beer at the Sandlot to commemorate the Rockies 20th anniversary
Located inside Coors Field since 1995, the Blue Moon Brewing Company @ the Sandlot has always made beers with a baseball theme, whether it was Right Field Red, Pinch Hit Pilsner or Belly Slide Belgian Wit (which became Blue Moon itself).
But this year, the little brewery will make a beer dedicated to the twentieth anniversary of the Colorado Rockies themselves. An easy-drinking amber style ale, 20th Anniversary Ale, as it is called, will be available starting on Opening Day, April 5.

"We were toying around with a whole bunch of different ideas," says Sandlot head brewer John Legnard about the beer, which includes abbey malts and American hops. "But this one came out as a tweener. It's between a couple of different styles.
"That's a poor description, which is why we are looking for help with that," he adds.
In fact, from March 15-28, Rockies fans can submit a brief description of the beer at Rockies.com; the description that "best embodies both the beer and the spirit of the Rockies' 20th Anniversary will be used to promote the brew in-stadium throughout the season," according to Blue Moon. The winner will get a private brewery tour from Legnard, a commemorative tap handle and two tickets to a home game.
Blue Moon head brewer Keith Villa said Rockies fans have helped the company fine tune many of its beers over the years, several of which are sold nationwide. So this is Blue Moon's way of giving back to them.
