Reader: Chubby's should merge with Pasquini's and end the confusion

The late Stella Cordova at Chubby's.
Confused about which Chubby's is which? Join the club. The Original Chubby's that is slated to open next week at 14th and Kalamath is a second venture by Julian Cordoba, who opened the first Original Chubby's in Thornton in 1987. But the true original Chubby's is still the spot that got its start as the Chubby Burger Drive-in on West 38th Avenue, where Stella Cordova worked in the '60s. She bought the place in 1969, kept the name -- but added green chile and her Mexican specialties to the menu.

Stella, who passed away in 2008, had ten children -- and many of their children, including Julian, now have Mexican spots with some variation of Stella's green chile recipes -- and some variation of the Chubby's name.

Says davebarnes:

Each of the separate Chubby's should merge with each of the Pasquini's and then we would be all so confused that we could ignore them all.

For the record, the original Pasquini's, on South Broadway, is no longer run by Tony Pasquini; it now belongs to his sister. But he still owns the three Tony P's spots in Denver -- which all changed their names from Pasquini's to Tony P's over the last year -- as well as what's still called Pasquini's in the Tech Center.
