African Grill and Bar will add a second location
We've been enamored of African Grill since we first stumbled into this Aurora strip mall spot a couple of years ago. Not only does the restaurant serve up tasty, tomato-tinged jollof rice and pungent goat stew, it's also operated by some of the most hospitable owners we've ever encountered. Osei and Adwoa Ford-wuo (and, perhaps, their children) will joyfully walk you through their exotic West African menu as if you were guests in their own home, and then they'll probably ply you with shots of house-infused liquor that's meant to improve your love life.

After three years in their current location plus two attempted ventures that never quite got off the ground (the African market they opend in the same shopping center didn't work out, nor did an attempt to find a suitable address on the 16th Street Mall), the Ford-wuos are growing their restaurant family and opening a second location on the corner of Green Valley Ranch Boulevard and Tower Road.
"It will be mostly the same, but we have a little more space," says Adwoa. "So we'll be able to have some African dance."
The menu will be identical, she promises, featuring the same mix of plantain, cassava, yam and peanut sauce dishes (plus that jollof rice and goat) that requires some interpretation unless you've spent time in West Africa. She also says they're applying for a liquor license, so that they can serve their magic love potion as well as beer to their new neighborhood.
Since the space is empty and has never been a restaurant, the Ford-wuos are starting from scratch and creating this second restaurant from the ground up. They plan to feature the same breezy, warm vibe as at their current place, and have already started construction on the walls and floors.
As for opening date? "We're hoping for June at the latest," says Adwoa.
