Reader: Northwest Denver without Lechuga's Little Devils?

There have been rumors for years that Lechuga's, one of the last old-time Italian joints in LoHi -- once known as "the North Side" -- is for sale. But now the property is officially listed -- with a hefty $3 million price tag.

The asking price may be outrageous. But there are also howls of outrage at the thought of losing another Italian institution.

Says Denver Dave:

The "gentrification" of this neighborhood is making me very sad. We are really losing so many iconic Denver businesses. NW Denver without Lechuga's cannolis and little devils - it really is a crime.

Have you been to Lechuga's? It's not too late -- the restaurant is still open, and will likely remain so until a deal goes through. Which, with this price tag, may not be all that soon.

What do you mean "Taken over by the Hispanics"? As far as I (and plenty of other "Hispanic" and Italian families) know, we've been here since the northside became the northside. Italians and Chicanos have always lived side by side in CO... Are you even from here? Is anyone from here anymore? Where is the old Chicano couple who lived 3-4 houses up from Our Lady of Guadalupe, always tending their garden? Pagliacci's? Swallowed up by this:

"Metro Denver also ranks first among large U.S. metros for total population gain in the 25- to 34-year age group between 2008 and 2010." (http://www.metrodenver.org/demographics-communities/demographics/population.html)

He's worried about gentrification of this neighborhood? What is this 1990?

This hasn't been an Italian neighborhood since 1960, then it was taken over by Hispanics, then it was gentrified by the Yuppies in the 90's and is presently being destroyed by the hipsters.
