TRVE Brewing hits 4/20 with a dank double IPA dedicated to the song "Dopesmoker"

Nick Nunns, the owner of TRVE Brewing, likes the song Dopesmoker by Sleep, the now-disbanded metal band. And why not? Brewing beer takes a while, and this guitar-heavy anthem lasts for a brain-addling one hour and three minutes.

"We play it all the time. It's one of those things. If you're a metal-head, you know about that song," Nunns says. "The members of that band went on to play in some other pretty well-known bands, but they are a band that needed to have an homage done for them."

A big, dank homage.

At 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, Nunns will release Nazareth, a double dry-hopped IPA brewed with three kinds of hops -- a plant that is related to cannabis and can carry an aroma that is strikingly similar to weed. "It's pungent as hell, which is cool," Nunns says of the beer.

Weighing in at 10 percent ABV, Nazareth will also be the biggest beer that TRVE, which typically pours lower-alcohol beers, has created since it opened last June.

"I like low-ABV stuff because you don't get blasted on two beers, but it's fun to do something different once in while," he says. "This will have some punch to it."

Which is fitting, he notes: "it's a giant, long-ass song about smoking weed, so you might as well release the beer for it on 4/20."

Or, as he says on Facebook, it's "the ultimate ode to the ultimate ode to the spliff."

Trve Brewing is not metal; they are poser douche bags serving expensive yuppie beer. Bar Bar is metal, 3 Kings is Metal.

Small note.  Sleep isn't disbanded.  They have been playing a handful of shows a year since 2010.  Matt Pike's main band is now High On Fire but Sleep lives on.

Can't wait to try the Nazareth.   \m/  TRVE   \m/
