A culinary taste for the Fourth of July
Happy Independence Day! Cafe Society is taking the day off to eat and drink -- and if that concept sounds good to you on this patriotic holiday, we've rounded up several culinary activities today. (If you know of any other events, feel free to share them in the comments section below.)
The fourth annual Fourth of July Highland Parade ends with a hundred-foot ice cream sundae from Litle Man! Marchers are encouraged to bring non-motorized vehicles (decorated or not) and meet up at the intersection of 32nd Avenue and Clay Street at 7:45 a.m.; the parade takes off after 9 for Hirshorn Park, where there will be food, games and music from Trout Steak Revival, National Anthem Singers, The Pettis Family, Little Man Drum Line, The Golden Monkey Fortune Company and The Rocky Mountain Roller Punks. And that sundae!
Wynkoop Brewing Company, 1634 18th Street, is celebrating the Fourth with a beer/whiskey dinner that starts at 6:30 p.m. and pairs a four-course menu with Wynkoop beer and select whiskey; call 303-297-9999 for reservations (space is limited).
Alfalfa's is hosting a Fourth of July "Throwdown" in Boulder from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Festivities will include baby goats from Mountain Flower Dairy, seed-spitting contests, face painting, live music, crafts , snacks and drinks and free ice cream from Boulder Ice Cream. The new Glendale location of Jax Fish House, 650 South Colorado Boulevard (in the City Set development), will host a rooftop patio party today from 1 to 4 p.m. For $25, party goers can enjoy a drink, appetizers and a celebratory toast. Purchase tickets here.
