Craft-beer throwdowns at Breckenridge, Parry's Pizza and Twisted Pine this week

That Brewery on Zuni
New breweries are opening nearly every week in Colorado, but the one that started up a new Facebook page last Saturday isn't one of them. "No we didn't change our name," reads the first post on That Brewery on Zuni's page. "We're still that great craft brewery making unique, great tasting craft beers. So please stop by for a pint or two. Cheers!" And what is "That Brewery?" It's three-year-old Strange Brewing, which lost a big part of its online presence in June because of an ugly and ongoing legal dispute with a Massachusetts homebrew shop. Read the rests of the story in our post, "Facebook takes down Strange Brewing's page amid legal dispute with homebrew shop."

Star Bar continues its summer-long Double Feature and a Keg series tonight with a Christmas in July theme. The Copper Kettle will tap a new fresh fruit firkin every Wednesday in July beginning today with Kiwi Blonde Ale. The taproom opens at 3 p.m. East Coast Joe's will be serving food at 4 p.m.

Tickets for the Bull & Bush Brewery's 42nd Anniversary Party with The Samples, which takes place on August 10 at 9 p.m., go on sale today at the brewery's bar.

Lucky Pie LoDo will hot a gourmet popcorn and beer pairing today from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. featuring five kinds of popcorn from Whatever Pops Up paired with five different beers selected by Lucky Pie. Tickets are $10.

The American Homebrewers Association will host a regional rally today from 1 to 4 p.m. at Left Hand Brewing in Longmont, where homebrewers can hang out, meet each other and the AHA staff and try some rare Left Hand beers, like 2010 Wake Up Dead stout. The rally is free to current AHA members, but non-members can sign up at a discounted rate at the rally. RSVP to

Oskar Blues will take over the taps at Parry's Pizzeria & Bar in Highlands Ranch today in a way that is particularly reflective of this boundary-pushing brewery's ethos: by serving a bunch of beers that are typically only available in the Longmont taproom. Confirmed beers include Obliterator, Chaka, Icey Wheat IPA, Maple Flurry, BA G'KNIGHT (G'knight aged in chardonnay barrels) and Vienna Lager, along with some other barrel-aged selections that will be announced later. "The intent is to give the consumer the feeling that they are in the brewery drinking the beers from their own taps," Parry's says of the event. "This type of event is special for those that cannot find the time to get out to the actual brewery, but instead they can stay in their own neighborhood and experience something close to going to the brewery." The tappings start at 11 a.m., and there will be brewery reps on hand to talk to customers; raffles for Oskar Blues and Parry's Pizza memorabilia will be held every hour.

Breckenridge Brewery will throw its 23rd Anniversary Hootenanny with a Kalamath Street block party today from noon to 6 p.m., featuring specialty beers, barbecue and live music from Head for the Hills, Colorado Goat Ropers Guild, Marty Jones & the Great Unknowns and others. This year the party space has been expanded to include the entire block of Kalamath between Fourth and Fifth avenues, allowing for additional attendees and extra room for dancing. Some of the unusual beers include "one-of-a-kind firkins featuring Oatmeal Stout aged with orange and chocolate and two interpretations of SummerBright, one dry hopped with Sorachi Ace hops and one dry hopped with Nelson Sauvin hops," the brewery says. "Belgian interpretations of Breckenridge mainstays will include Belgian Double IPA, Barrel Aged Belgian Oatmeal Stout and Double Belgian Agave Wheat." There will also be 471 On the Moon, three-quarters 471 IPA and one-quarter Oatmeal Stout, aged in a cabernet barrel. Tickets, $23, are available at, and include four beers, unlimited tasters of rare and unique beers, and food from the Pig Roast. Additional beers are available for $2 each. Kids under twelve are free.

The two-day Colorado Brewers Rendezvous kicks off today for its seventeenth year in Salida, benefiting the Colorado Brewers Guild. There will be live music, local food vendors and beer from fifty to sixty Colorado brewers, many of whom will have their owners or brewers in attendance. The popular fest takes place in Riverside Park from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $35.

Twisted Pine Brewing in Boulder will celebrate its 18th Anniversary Party today from 2 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and get you unlimited samples of thirty Twisted Pine beers, including Northstar Imperial Porter, Bough Breaker Barleywine, and Bishop's Elbow ESB, which was brewed just for the anniversary. There will be live music and food trucks on hand, along with a dunk tank.
