H Burger closes LoDo location, Smashburger opens two more spots

peytonburger.jpg
Summer is a great time for burgers, and Smashburger, the homegrown chain that started in Denver in 2007 and now spans the country, recently opened two more stores in the area: at 965 South Hover Street in Longmont and 8100 West Crestline Avenue in Littleton. That makes a total of 21 Smashburger locations in this state.

But not all burger chains are created equal. Colorado-based H Burger closed its Boulder location earlier this summer, and the downtown location on the 16th Street Mall shuttered at the end of July.

That leaves just the Little H Burger at 727 Colorado Boulevard.

H Burger is mediocre. As much as I hate to admit it, the best burger I've had in a while was at Crave in Highlands Ranch. I think the burger I got was called the Campfire. Dynamite.

The reason H Burger closed, at least in Boulder, was because it had no quality control and the service was erratic at best. The last time I went I got some of their truffle fries that were not only room temperature but had seemingly been cooked the night before. I was amazed they even made it to my table.

Their milkshakes were pretty phenomenal, but there are certainly better purveyors of patties around Denver

Having been to the now closed H Burger in Boulder, I was surprised it was open so long. It appeared there was no quality control there at all. 5 guys for me, Larkburger, Smashburger.

Don't know why Smashburger, Larkburger, or Cherry Cricket are even in consideration... Smashburger plain sucks on a regular basis. Larkburger, while delicious, is the overpriced small-portioned hipster gourmet mac store version of a burger joint. And it baffles me how Cherry Cricket gets on TV shows when it's little more than your average bar food, with WAY more hype and cost.

H Burger's service was deplorable both times that we went there. I was also not terribly impressed with their overpriced burgers. There was really nothing unique about them. I prefer Park Burger if I'm looking for something special - best vegetarian burgers in town, too.

Since my first and only visit to H Burger, I've called it "Half My Paycheck Burger." It's no loss to me. It was a trendy, overpriced hamburger joint.

Yes, actually Smashburger is owned by Quiznos. Well, Rick Schaden who also owns Quiznos through his parent corp.

Gimmie Larkburger any day over either of these. H was OK the one time I was there but WAY overpriced for the quality. Never been able to eat at a Smashburger and not get sick from it

Was never impressed by H Burger, seemed overpriced and pretentious. I think Smashburger is a great place for the price. But when it comes down to it, Highland Tap all the way!

Don't like Quiznos. So, since Smashburger is owned by Quiznos, I'll go H. burger.
