Don't be fooled by the fact that The Wooden Table is located in a strip mall, because this neighborhood Italian restaurant is far from a generic suburban spot. In fact, we named it the Best Neighborhood Italian Restaurant in our 2013 Best of Denver. The upscale eatery serves up housemade pastas and has an extensive wine list. And owners Brett Shaheen and Jane Duncan Knauf have just made the best better, updating their menu to keep things fresh through the summer.

Among the additions is a seared albacore appetizer with Crenshaw and Lemondrop melon, rainbow and black radishes, and a melon and mint vinaigrette; on the entree list, there's also wild King salmon served in a saffron tomato broth. Also new are two pasta dishes: tortelloni featuring English peas, braised ham hock and a carrot and pea brodo, and ricotta cavatelli, which combines duck confit carbonara, pancetta and egg yolk.

"Our chef, Brett Shaheen, is meticulous in his quest to continually craft and update the Wooden Table's novel, fresh and European-infused menu," says Knauf. "Each of the dishes we've recently added are simply mouth-watering and are a reflection of the renowned culinary experience that is synonymous with The Wooden Table."

I had the tortelloni with peas and ham last night. It was awesome.
