We toast Prost, Freshcraft and Todd Alström in this week's beer calendar
Peaches aren't the only Western Slope product heading east over the mountains these days. Kannah Creek Brewing in Grand Junction has just begun distributing two of its bottled beers, Lands End Amber and Standing Wave Pale Ale, to Denver for the first time. Eventually Republic National Distributing will help Kannah Creek sell the beer, in six-packs, twelve-packs and kegs, all over the Front Range. The eight-year-old brewery recently opened a second brewery and bottling facility, Edgewater Brewery, in Grand Junction. It houses a thirty-barrel brewhouse and a bottling line.

Prost Brewing is celebrating its one-year anniversary all week with various tappings and events. Today the German-style brewery is selling its first anniversary glasses for $10 and offering $4 refills all night. The Brewers Guild is holding an event there in the evening, and there will be live music and food from Dogtown Concessions.
The Copper Kettle will continue its barrel-aged cask month by tapping a cask of Barrel Aged Barleywine today at 3 p.m. East Coast Joe's will be selling food at 4 p.m.
The Yak & Yeti will tap Cherry Wheat, a house favorite, today at 4 p.m. The 5.3 percent AVB, 22 IBU beer is part of the Yak's summer wheat series.
At 5 p.m. today Avery Brewing will host a tapping party for its seasonal duganA IPA, a beer that it describes as a "brutally bitter, dank, piney and resinous ale designed for those seeking a divine hop experience." The double IPA is 8.5 percent ABV and 93 IBUs.

Prost Brewing continues its week-long birthday celebration today by tapping its Marzen; a food truck will be on hand. There will also be events on Saturday and Sunday -- check the Prost Facebook page for details.
Saturday, August 24
Welcome Candice and Todd Alström of Beer Advocate to Denver (read about why they are moving here in this Q&A with Todd Alstrom) with a social gathering at Great Divide's tasting room today at noon. The Chef Driven food truck will be outside.
Sanitas Brewing, which will open in Boulder sometime in the next few weeks, will release of their beers early at a party at Rueben's Burger Bistro. Summer Snow White IPA is described as "a citrusy, light-bodied IPA with the refreshing qualities of a Witbier." The limited tapping takes place at 6 p.m., and the Sanitas owners will be on hand to help host the event and give away door prizes.
Starting at 11 a.m. today, Freshcraft will celebrate its third anniversary with a barbecue party that includes smoked hens, beef ribs, pulled pork, hot links and peach pie, along with special beers like Stone Farking Wheaton W00tStout, Oskar Blues Appleton Rum Barrel Aged Ten Fidy and Ska Cru D'état.
The two-day Fermentation Festival kicks off today at the Highlands Masonic Center, where guests will be able to sample fermented foods and beverages from across the country. Participants include Kombucha breweries, local distillers, craft breweries, wineries, restaurants and sauerkraut makers. Since the festival is designed to increase awareness of fermented foods and beverages, educational seminars will be offered, too. There are numerous ticket packages, ranging from $17 to $55; check them all out at ticketfly.com.
The Great Central City Beer Festival will return from noon to 7 p.m. today for its second run in the mountain-town-turned-gambling-hall. In addition to Central City's own Dostal Alley, there will be beer from Grimm Brothers, Cannonball Creek, Dillon Dam, Wynkoop, Tommyknocker, AC Golden, Blue Moon, Pateros Creek, Tivoli, Very Nice, Mountain Toad, Twisted Pine, Backcountry, Arvada Beer and the Sandlot. There will also be live music from three different bands along Main Street. Tickets are $20 or $25 the day of.
Sunday, August 25
Avery Brewing will release No. 17 in its acclaimed Barrel-Aged series today in its taproom (and since only 276 cases were produced, it probably won't hit store shelves). Thensaurum, a 10.89 percent ABV, rum barrel-aged sour is also Avery's fourth Barrel-Aged to be released in the past few months. Oddly, the brewery's "chief barrel herder," Andy Parker, has been opposed to the beer, feeling that the combination of flavors was all wrong. The brewing team then forgot about the beer, which was happily aging in the cellar. Upon rediscovery, the beer tasted great, and Parker says in a statement that "as it turned out, it was me who was wrong. This beer blew me away." Thensaurum will be released at 5 p.m. today, but the line party will start at 11 a.m. and feature several rare Avery beers on tap. Each twelve-ounce bottle is $10, and customers are limited to twelve.
The Yak & Yeti in Arvada is hosting a Brewery Bike Crawl through five breweries in Arvada and Wheat Ridge today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. The crawl kicks off at the Yak at around noon, heading along the Ralston Creek trail to Odyssey Beerwerks. At around 1:10 p.m., riders will head south to Colorado Plus Brewpub, and at 2:30, they'll pedal on to Brewery Rickoli. From there, they'll leave at 3:35 p.m. for Arvada Beer Company, and then it's back to the Yak at 4:55 p.m.
