Denver Food and Wine flows into the city this week
The ninth annual Denver Food and Wine classic -- a six-day celebration of local food, wine and spirits -- will pop the cork today at Metropolitan State University of Denver's Hospitality Learning Center, with a special wine-pairing dinner at 6 p.m. courtesy of Troy Guard of TAG Restaurant. Art of the Cocktail Party with chef and cocktail competitions hosted by celebrity chef and James Beard Award winner Andy Husbands, chef of Boston's Tremont 647 and author of Wicked Good BBQ. Judging by attendees and food critics who will award first, second and third prizes. Entertainment included. Tickets are $50 per person.
Noon to 4 p.m. September 7
Grand Tasting featuring 40 of Denver's finest restaurants, and samples of more than 600 wines and spirits. VIP Lounge hosted by the historic Brown Palace Hotel (opens at 11 a.m.). US Foods Food Fanatic Chef Scott McCurdy will be featured on the Viking Culinary stage along with award-winning chefs -- including executive chef Elise Wiggins of Panzano; Brian Polcyn, celebrity chef, restaurant owner and author of Charcuterie: The Craft of Salting, Smoking and Curing, and James Beard Award-winner Andy Husbands -- who will perform culinary demonstrations. Panzano Restaurant Wine Pairing Dinner featuring a menu created by executive chef Elise Wiggins and Denver chefs Paul C.
